Flinders Ranges and Wilpena Pound

WOW, what an amazing experience Wilpena Pound and the Flinders Ranges were. We arrived into the Flinders Ranges late in the afternoon after our all day drive from Broken Hill, it was such a welcoming surprise at how beautiful The Wilpena Pound Resort is. The camping area was so tranquil nestled by huge gum trees with many kangaroos and their joeys just lying around, the kids were both amused and slightly frightened by the larger ones.
We decided to take in an aeriel scenic flight of the Wilpena Pound to get a better view and understanding of this natural beauty, it is such an awesome view from above to see the Wilpena Pound and surrounds which is millions of years old and are naturally formed rock formations.

After camping there for 2 days, heading out of the ranges we went via the Brachina Gorge which is a 4wd track through the ranges onto the gorge. It was incredible, we felt like we were in one of  David Attenborough’s documentaries. There was so much wildlife to see, from wedge tailed eagles to yellow footed rock wallabies who hid in the caves and ventured out as we walked past. We were also fortunate enough to have a mother emu walk right past us with her baby chicks which was so cute! More kangaroos and a huge variety of birdlife, on top of that the surrounding scenery was quite surreal – it felt like a backdrop of a movie set.
