Team K On Tour – Outback Troopy Adventures

Team K is George, Kathy, Paris & Harry on their travels

Uluru

What a great feeling it was, driving towards Uluru and seeing it in the distance. The kids could not contain their excitement of finally seeing the real ROCK. Many has been said about Ayers Rock Resort (and surrounding area), overpriced, tourist trap blah blah.. but paying $33.oo a night for our great camp sight meant that we could utilise all the facilities of the resort, mingle with the high flying neatly pressed tourists and not be too concerned about the $8.00 beers at the bar..

Being so disorganised the first morning we headed out at 10am to do the Uluru walk and have a closer look at the rock. After walking 1km of the 9km walk in the blistering heat sweating, swearing and negotiating the 1km back to the car we decided that it was just as easy to drive around at our leisure and admire the rock from a far with a zoom lens and our temperamental AC. In all honesty it is an overwhelming experience to be at the base of the rock and marvel at its beauty and size.

We were more organised during the sunset and the sunrise the following morning at 5am, and managed to capture some amazing moments of the sun over the rock. We also toured out to the Kata Tjuta (the Olgas), and truly we felt they were more amazing than Uluru. We did the canyon walk which was magnificent and well worth the effort.

Our final night was capped off with the Sounds of Silence dinner which is dinner in the desert under the stars with Uluru on one side and the Olgas on the other, that whole evening is so memorable and a really unforgettable way to finish a wonderful stay in Uluru.
