Wilpena pound (Day 2)
We had an amazing day today we rode on a private plane around the pound and it was so cool.
Oodnadatta track(Saturday 8th December)
The Oodnadatta track is a long and famous dirt track, and a little bit into the Oodnadatta track we stopped to give the bear a rest because it was really hot, we were 10km away from William Creek when we found out that we had a flat tyre, but lucky we had a spare. It was then that we realised that the other tyre was leaking and had a puncture in it. By now it was 8:30pm and the sun was setting when we reached William Creek it is a tiny little town with hardly anything in it, it had one pub and a caravan park opposite it. It was small but the people there were really nice considering that there were only 3 locals there. We were lucky because there was a tyre repair shop next to the pub and someone there who helped us fix our spare tyre. We stayed the night in the pub rooms, it was like paradise for us in that time of night we waited for about an hour for our spare tyre to be fixed and by then it was about 10:00.
Coober Pedy (Sunday 9th December)
We had our short drive today it was only an hour or so and we reached Coober Pedy at 11:30am the first coffee we had there we got totally ripped off and end up paying $14 for two coffee’s. We saw some mining tunnels and some under ground houses which were incredible, we heard about the amount of time and effort it took to take to find opals and build your house into the sandstone underground and this was done all by hand in the old days, now you just use a machine. It used to take 2 men 2 weeks to cut through the rock to make a tunnel now with the machine it just takes 5-6 hours.
Oodnadatta track again (Monday 10th December)
Were on it again but this time we were heading to Dalhousie springs which are natural hot thermal springs, the road was so bumpy and we did a few jaw clenching, nail biting small river crossings.
Dalhousie (Tuesday 11th December)
We reached Dalhousie springs and this was not what I expected there was no one here, nothing. The first sign I saw was about being dingo safe, grrrr. We stayed the night here and then in the morning we went for a beautiful swim. Then we started heading off for a big journey to Uluru
Uluru (Wednesday 12th December)
OMG its huge! We arrived in Uluru and the first thing that we saw was Uluru and I stared to scream it was amazing it took us a week and a half and 2 flat tyres but we finally made it, we attempted to walk around it but it was to long and way to hot so we decided to spend the day in the pool and even that is amazing.
Uluru (day 2)
Mum and dad woke up at 5:00am this morning so we could all see the sunrise at Uluru, we were still sleeping in the car while they were driving we arrived at 5:20am it was worth it because it was beautiful, after that we went to go see the Olgas and they are huge!
Uluru (day 3)
Today we are leaving to go to kings canyon but before we left we went on a very short camel ride, did you know that in their hump its actually not water but stored fat! A thirsty camel that hasn’t had any water for a month can drink about 100-200 litres in one go. We learnt alot of interesting facts about camels, they are so cute.
Kings Canyon
We arrived in Kings Canyon to beautiful scenery of rock formations, we arrived at the camp ground and it was so amazing, that night on the way to dinner we saw our very first dingo and it was pretty scary!
The next morning we woke up very early and went for a walk to the canyon it was the longest most tiring and most beautiful walk I have EVER been on. The walk was 7km around the rim of the canyon, and about 3.5hrs to complete but it wasn’t a flat straight walk it was walking on bumpy roads and up steep rocks, but half way through the walk there was a swimming hole and we got to swim in it. It felt like you were in one of thoses movies because when you were swimming you can look and and see the rock faces, it was truly amazing. We finally finished the walk and headed off to Glen Helen.
Glen Helen
Well the Glen Helen so called “resort” wast really a resort but the view was beautiful.
Camels are so cute when they spit on you haha great that you are having fun
